OBS Setup Transfer is a free Windows utility from TheBrokenJaw.com that helps you back up, restore, and transfer your OBS Studio configuration.

Protect your setup before reinstalling Windows, replacing your computer, testing new settings, or making major changes. You can also transfer selected profiles and scene collections to another Windows computer using one portable .obssetup file.

Create a complete recovery backup containing all your OBS profiles, scene collections, settings, hotkeys, layouts, plugin configuration, plugin inventory, and optional referenced media.

Export a selected profile and scene collection to one portable file, save it to a USB or external drive, and import it on another Windows computer.

Share a Setup

Create a package containing a selected profile, scene collection, settings, and optional media for another OBS user. Sensitive account information and stream keys are excluded.

How to Create a Complete Backup

1. Close OBS Studio completely.
2. Open OBS Setup Transfer.
3. Click Create Complete Backup.
4. Choose whether to include supported referenced media.
5. Select where you want to save the .obssetup file.
6. Keep the backup somewhere safe and test important backups before relying on them.

Complete backups automatically receive timestamped filenames so creating another backup does not overwrite an earlier one.

How to Export a Selected Setup

1. Close OBS Studio completely.
2. Open OBS Setup Transfer.
3. Select the profile and scene collection you want to export.
4. Choose whether to include general settings, plugin configuration, and referenced media.
5. Click Export Selected OBS Setup.
6. Save the resulting .obssetup file.

How to Import or Restore a Backup

1. Install and open OBS Studio at least once on the destination computer.
2. Close OBS Studio completely.
3. Open OBS Setup Transfer.
4. Click Import or Restore Backup.
5. Select the saved .obssetup file.
6. Review the package information and import options.
7. Complete the restoration and reopen OBS Studio.

Before importing or restoring anything, the program automatically creates a safety backup of the OBS configuration currently on the computer.

Referenced Media

Referenced media is optional and is not included unless the user chooses to include it.

Supported referenced files may include:

• Images and overlays
• Videos
• Music and sound effects
• Supported font files
• Local browser-source files
• Other supported local source files

Imported media is stored in a timestamped folder under:

Documents\OBS Setup Transfer\Imported Media

The program updates the imported scene collection so supported sources point to the restored files. Missing, inaccessible, and unsupported files are skipped and reported in the activity log.

Plugin Information

OBS Setup Transfer can include compatible plugin configuration and create a list of detected third-party plugins. The actual plugin programs are not included.

Required plugins must be downloaded and installed separately from their original developers. Some settings may not work until the matching plugin and a compatible version of OBS Studio are installed.

Privacy and Security

OBS Setup Transfer works locally on your Windows computer. Your OBS settings, profiles, scenes, media, and backup packages are not uploaded to TheBrokenJaw.com.

For security, the following information is always excluded:

• Linked streaming-account authorization
• Stream keys
• Passwords
• Login and authorization tokens
• Browser cookies

After restoring a backup, you must reconnect your streaming account through OBS Studio.

Exported packages may contain profile names, scene names, source names, local file paths, browser-source URLs, plugin configuration, and any media you choose to include. Only share packages with people you trust, and only share media you have permission to distribute.

Compatibility Information

Some settings may depend on:

• The installed OBS Studio version
• Available monitors and display resolution
• Audio and video devices
• Graphics hardware and encoders
• Installed fonts
• Installed OBS plugins
• The location of referenced media files

Always verify your scenes, sources, audio devices, recording settings, and streaming settings after restoring or transferring a setup.

• Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
• OBS Studio installed
• OBS Studio must be closed during export, import, backup, and restoration

The downloadable version is self-contained and does not require users to install .NET separately.

Windows Security Notice

OBS Setup Transfer is currently distributed without a paid digital code-signing certificate. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may display an Unknown publisher or Windows protected your PC warning when you download or open it.

This warning does not automatically mean the program contains a virus. It means Windows cannot verify the publisher through a recognized code-signing certificate.
